The 1979 Big Sky Conference Men's Basketball Tournament was held March 2–3 at the Dee Events Center at Weber State College in Ogden, Utah.[1]
Top-seeded Weber State defeated Northern Arizona in the championship game, 92–70, to repeat as champions and clinch their second overall Big Sky men's basketball tournament.
The Wildcats, in turn, received an automatic bid to the 1979 NCAA Tournament, where they advanced to the Second Round.
Format
No changes were made to the tournament format: only the top four teams from the standings took part in the tournament field and teams were again seeded based on regular-season records. Additionally, the tournament was again held at the home court of the conference's regular season champion.
Northern Arizona made its inaugural appearance in the Big Sky tournament, not having qualified as a top-four team in either of the previous three years.
