Reigning champion Evonne Cawley did not defend her title, as she had recently given birth to her second child.^[1] Chris Evert-Lloyd defeated Hana Mandlíková 6–2, 6–2 in the final to win the Ladies' Singles tennis title at the 1981 Wimbledon Championships.

This was the first time that no British player was among the top 16 seeds in the Wimbledon history.
