The 9th International Emmy Awards took place on November 26, 1981, in New York City, United States.
Ceremony
The Australian TV show, A Town Like Alice, won the International Emmy Award for drama and ABC News President Roone Arledge was honored with a special International Emmy prize. The International Council of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences awarded Arledge the council's Founders Award for his work on ABC's Wide World of Sports.
Sir Huw Wheldon, BBC's former chief executive officer, received the council's directorate award.
The award for best documentary was to Charters Pour L'Enfer, by Societe Nationale Television (France 2).[1]
