Abdel Nasser Barakat (born 15 May 1976) is a Palestinian football manager of, who was an attacking midfielder for Al-Bireh until he retired. He was the head coach on an interim basis for the Palestine national football team for a single match in 2011.^[1] He took over the Palestine national football team in May 2015 after guiding the Olympic side for two years.

Coaching career

Barakat got his coaching start while still playing for West Bank side Al-Bireh as a 23 year old he took control of the club's youth's sides and excelled- guiding them to several local championships. His success with Al-Bireh's youth sides led to him being offered coaching opportunities with the youth ranks of the national team. .^[2] After stints coaching Al-Bireh, Hilal Jericho, and ladies' side Soraya Ramallah- Barakat took the reins of the Palestine Olympic side in 2012. He became the first manager to lead Palestine to victory at an 2014 Asian Games when Palestine beat Oman 2-0 in the 2014 edition en route to winning their group.

He was appointed as manager of the senior national team following an qualification for the 2016 Summer Olympics where he led the team to a 2-0-2 record vs. Nepal, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia, and Iran.

As manager of the Palestine national football team he brought in several new players into the side building around a midfield duo of Pablo Tamburrini and Mohammed Darwish. His tenure saw the debut of Matias Jadue, Ahmad Abu Nahyeh, Jonathan Cantillana, Yashir Pinto, Mohammed Abu Khamis, Sameh Maraaba, Shadi Shaaban, and Ahmed Awad.

Palestine achieved positive results during 2018 FIFA World Cup qualification winning more games than they lost for the first time ever during a qualification campaign and taking points off every single side in their group- including eventual final round teams Saudi Arabia and UAE.
