Agora.io offers an API and SDK to allow developers to plug in high-quality real-time communications building block for any application.[1] Through a virtual network spanning over 100 data centers worldwide, Agora SDK is claimed to be optimized for real-time and mobile-to-mobile communications and WebRTC compatible. Founded in 2014, the company is privately-held and headquartered in Santa Clara, CA.

Agora.io's clients include Talkspace,[2] MoMo, Xiaomi,[3] HelloTalk, Lingoland,[4] and others.

Products

The Agora.io SDKs enable mobile and web users to make voice & video calls, share screens, whiteboard, and use data channels to exchange files. The company claims it can support as many as 2,000 users in a single session.

History

Agora.io, began as a startup called Agora Lab, is founded by communications veteran Tony (Bin) Zhao. Before founding Agora.io in January 2014, he was the CTO of YY.com, a $3 billion NASDAQ listed social, gaming and entertainment company, supported over 400 billion VoIP call minutes a year in China.[1]

In September 2015, Agora.io received a $20 million Series B investment from venture capital firms SIG China, MorningSide, GGV Capital, ShunWei, YY Inc. and IDG, led by SIG China General Partner Dan Yan, with a valuation at $100 million.[5]
