Akashaditya lama[1] (born 9 March 1977) is an Indian film director[2] and scriptwriter[3] based in Bollywood. Born in Ranchi, Bihar (now in Jharkhand) and brought up in Kolkata (West Bengal) Bhilai (Chhattisgarh) Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh) and Faridkot (Punjab). Lama got his diploma in Mechanical Engineering in 1996–97. He got his first break in the business of films and television in 1998 by assisting in Ad films Pillsbury Wheat Flour, Camelin and more. He has been an assistant director, screenplay writer, dialogue writer, theatre artist, playwright, script writer and now has directed his first feature film, Cigarette Ki Tarah,[4] starring actors Prashant Narayanan[5] and Yuvika Chaudhary.
Early life
Lama's father was in CISF, who retired recently and mother is a homemaker. He is the only child and due to his father's transferable nature of job, he did his schooling in different cities at different points in time. He wanted to grow up to be an Army officer. He did his diploma in Mechanical Engineering from Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh.
Career
Lama's career began in 1998 after he started assisting Ad filmmaker. His initial days' works were Ad films like Pillsbury Wheat Flour, Camelin, Ariel Washing Powder, Boost Energy Drink and many more ads as an assistant. In 1999, Lama joined Indian filmmaker Anil Sharma as an assistant director for the film Gadar: Ek Prem Katha, starring actors Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel. He assisted directors like Ajay Phansekar and Tanuja Chandra. Lama started writing screenplays for Indian daily soaps for production houses like Balaji Telefilms, Deepti Bhatnagar Production, BAG films, Cinevistaas, Rajshri Productions Pvt Ltd and many more. Lama wrote the screenplay of the daily soap Kkusum (2003) which went ahead to be a television success. Lama also wrote the dialogues of another popular daily soap Kumkum (2008). Lama then went ahead to write for films. His first stint with film writing was with the film Lahore, directed by National Award winning director Sanjay Puran Singh Chauhan. Lama has co-written Chauhan's next directorial venture. Lama also wtitten and co produced nationally and critically acclaimed Hindi play Mohenjodare.[6] Lama directed his first film in 2012 titled Cigarette Ki Tarah,[7] starring actors Prashant Narayanan and Yuvika Chaudhary. He is working on his next directorial venture which is untitled and will be produced by Sudhakar Bokade. Lama has also written the script of his next directorial venture. He is also member of expert committee for the scheme of financial assistance to professional group and individuals engage for specified performing art, Ministry of Culture Government of India. Lama filled a case against Ashutosh Gowariker for steling his script Mohenjo Daro and this is matter in Mumbai court.[8]
