Alexandra Anna Daddario[1] (born March 16, 1986) is an American actress. She is best known for playing Annabeth Chase in the Percy Jackson film series, and Blake Gaines in San Andreas. She starred in the films Texas Chainsaw 3D and Hall Pass, and has guest starred on series including White Collar, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, True Detective, and American Horror Story: Hotel.

Early life

Daddario was born in New York City, the daughter of Christina, a lawyer, and Richard Daddario, a prosecutor and former head of the NYPD counter-terrorism unit under Mayor Michael Bloomberg.[2] Her brother, Matthew Daddario, is also an actor.[3][4] She also has a sister named Catharine.[5] Her paternal grandfather was Emilio Q. Daddario, a Democratic member of the United States House of Representatives for the state of Connecticut from 1959 to 1971.[6] She has Italian, Czech, English, and Irish ancestry.[7]

Daddario was raised on Manhattan's Upper East Side. She is an alumna of Brearley School and the Professional Children's School.[8] Daddario said she decided to be an actress at the age of eleven.[9] She attended Marymount Manhattan College.[10] She has claimed to have studied the Meisner acting technique for years.[11]

Career

Daddario made her television debut at the age of 16, when she played victimized teen Laurie Lewis on the soap opera All My Children. Her first major role was as Annabeth Chase in the 2010 fantasy-adventure film Percy Jackson & the Olympians: The Lightning Thief.[12] She also had a recurring role as Neal Caffrey's love interest Kate Moreau on the series White Collar. In 2011, she co-starred in Hall Pass and had a recurring role on Parenthood.[13]

In 2012, she starred in the music video for Imagine Dragons' "Radioactive", and had an episode guest stint on It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia as Ruby Taft. Her first starring role since Percy Jackson was the slasher film Texas Chainsaw 3D as Heather Miller, which was shown in 2013, although the filming took place almost two years prior. In the latter part of 2013, Daddario reprised her role as Annabeth Chase in Percy Jackson: Sea of Monsters. She then appeared in the zombie comedy Burying the Ex with Anton Yelchin and Ashley Greene. Burying the Ex was among the chosen films participating but not competing in the Venice Film Festival in 2014.[14]

In 2014, Daddario gained attention for her role on the first season of the HBO series True Detective.[15] She appeared in a four episode arc as Lisa Tragnetti, one of Woody Harrelson's character's extramarital affairs.[16] The following year, she had a lead role as Blake Gaines in the disaster film San Andreas, alongside Dwayne Johnson.[17] Also in 2015, Daddario had a cameo in the pilot of the Will Forte comedy series The Last Man on Earth,[18] and had a guest appearance on American Horror Story: Hotel, where she played a fictionalized version of designer Natacha Rambova.[19]

In 2016, she had a supporting role in the Nicholas Sparks film The Choice.[20] Daddario was then cast alongside Kate Upton in the road trip comedy The Layover, directed by William H. Macy, replacing Lea Michele in the role.[21] Daddario was subsequently cast as the female lead in the film adaptation of Baywatch, reuniting with her San Andreas co-star Dwayne Johnson. She will play the role of Summer Quinn, who was portrayed by Nicole Eggert in the series.[22] Daddario will then star opposite Adam DeVine in the romantic comedy When We First Met.[23] She next joined the cast of We Have Always Lived in the Castle as Constance Blackwood, the first film adaptation of Shirley Jackson's novel of the same name.[24]

Personal life

Daddario lives in Los Angeles,[11] and has one dog named Levon.[25] Daddario was considered a sex symbol by Rolling Stone,[26] and in 2014 was named one of the "100 Sexiest Women in the World" by Maxim.[27]
