Alper Çuğun (born 1981) is an Netherlands-born, Berlin, Germany-based Dutch-Turkish designer, entrepreneur and Open Data activist. He holds a MSc in Media and Knowledge Engineering from Delft University of Technology.

Çuğun is a partner and principal technologist of Dutch games company Hubbub and serves on the board of the Open State Foundation (formerly known as Hack the Overheid) that aims to set Open Data on the Dutch and European political agenda. He co-organized the app development competitions Apps for Amsterdam,[1] Apps voor Nederland and Apps for Europe.

Çuğun is credited with being one of the first ten Twitter users in the Netherlands[2][3] and with bringing Foursquare to Amsterdam as the first non-US city long before their global roll-out.[4] In 2008, he co-founded the now-defunct online content tipping service TipiT.[5][6]

Open Data Activism

Çuğun is on the board[7] of Dutch Open Data non-profit Open State Foundation (formerly called Hack de Overheid), where he was involved in launching Politwoops Netherlands.[8][9]

Çuğun also served on the advisory board of Social Media Week Berlin in 2013.[10]

Talks and Interviews

He regularly speaks at conferences on topics like open data, gaming or the Quantified Self, including NEXT Berlin conference,[11] MLOVE Festival,[12] Ignite Berlin[13] and Retune.[14] At the Dutch E-Culture Days Helsinki he spoke about the importance of open data and app competitions.[15] At Interaction16[16] he spoke about conversational interfaces.
