Founded in 2002 by river cruise executives Rudi Schreiner, Kristin Karst and Jimmy Murphy, AmaWaterways is a river cruise line that operates worldwide across three continents. The company offers unique itineraries for a variety of destinations throughout Europe, Asia, and Africa, although the majority of their cruises take place on Western Europe's Danube River, Rhine River, Main River, Mosel River, Seine and Rhône River. The company is a member of Cruise Lines International Association.

Destinations

AmaWaterways cruises operate on 7- to 21-day cruise itineraries, and visits Belgium, the Netherlands, Austria, Germany, France, Spain, Luxembourg, Switzerland, Hungary, Latvia, Romania, Serbia, Croatia, Bulgaria, Myanmar (Burma) and Cambodia & Vietnam. Itineraries in Europe also include wine-themed and art-themed trips. The cruises travel the Rhine, Main, Danube, Rhone, Mosel, Saone and Seine in Europe, the Chobe in Africa, as well as the Mekong and Irrawaddy in Southeast Asia.

In 2012, AmaWaterways introduced an African River Cruise & Safari that visits the Chobe River, South Africa, Botswana, Kenya, Zimbabwe and Tanzania.[1] Unlike other itineraries, the African cruise focuses on the exotic wildlife of the region with fishing excursions, visits to local villages, and game viewing by smaller boat and vehicle.[2]

In 2014, AmaWaterways introduced a new 14 night Myanmar Cruise from Yangon, the former capital of Burma.

In 2016, AmaWaterways will be adding Bordeaux Cruises on the Garrone River.

AmaWaterways River Cruise Experience

The AmaWaterways river cruise experience differs greatly from other methods of travel for many reasons. River cruising offers a peaceful and scenic environment while the ride is gentle and smooth on some of the world's most remarkable waterways. While on a river cruise, guests are constantly surrounded by nature, giving them the opportunity to find a balance between historic cities and the flourishing habitats surrounding the rivers. River cruising allows guests to dock by magnificent castles or exciting landmarks. Method of transportation within the city is no longer an issue; guests are given complimentary bicycles to explore the towns, or they can simply walk off the ship and find themselves in the middle of a market or landmark within minutes of their arrival. As ships dock closely to town centers, being immersed in the local culture and traditions become natural due to its ease of access.

Inside the Ship

AmaWaterWays offers deluxe amenities and attentive service to its guests. Many of their ships include French Balconies, in-room internet access, Twin Balcony staterooms, choice of indoor and outdoor dining venues, and heated swimming pools. AmaWaterways strives to reach an ideal staff-to-guest ratio in order to provide more attentive service. The guest capacity is limited to 164 guests on voyages to Europe, and 220 guests on voyages to Russia, Vietnam, Cambodia, and Africa. AmaWaterways aspired to redefine the concept of river cruise, aspiring to offer amenities on par with those of 5-star hotels. With contemporary designs of lobbies and artwork, along with elegant dining areas, the idea of luxury river travel was achieved. With each ship offering exquisite staterooms, many which feature French Balconies, traveling via river cruise became a much more attractive option. With many of their ships providing a panoramic view, the excursion offers their guests an opportunity to witness many famous landmarks in three different continents.[3]

AmaWaterways offers many of the accommodations carried by luxury hotels. Daily buffet breakfast is provided, along with terry bathrobes and white-on-white plush bedding. Every stateroom is given an infotainment system, including TV and complimentary internet. Gourmet dining is offered with free-flowing wine, beer and soda, along with complimentary espresso and cappuccino with every meal. Guests are also offered a cocktail reception and a welcome dinner, with nightly onboard entertainment during their stay.
