Ameera Shah (born 24 September 1979) is an Indian entrepreneur. She is the Managing Director of Metropolis Healthcare Limited, a multinational chain of pathology centers based in Mumbai with presence in seven countries.[1]

Early life

Ameera Shah was born in a Gujarati family in Mumbai. She obtained a degree in Finance from The University of Texas at Austin and returned to India, where she joined her father's pathology business Metropolis Healthcare. She later completed the Owner-President Management Program at Harvard Business School. Shah is an eminent industry spokesperson and has been featured as a speaker in various National and International forums, industry events and conclaves. She has spoken at events organized by Indian Institute of Management Ahmedabad, Harvard Business School, TED, CII and many such reputed institutions.

Metropolis Healthcare

Shah returned to India and decided to join her father's pathology lab, which was then a local proprietary business. Her father's business called Metropolis Healthcare was founded on 10 November 2000. It is classified as Non-govt company and is registered at Registrar of Companies, Mumbai. It was started with an authorized share capital of Rs. 550,000,000 and paid up capital of Rs. 98,641,296. She subsequently transformed this single lab into a chain of diagnostic labs across India. She soon carved a niche for herself in the business and established a sales and marketing team for the company.[2]

Under her stewardship Metropolis Healthcare Ltd. has grown from a single pathology laboratory in 2002 to a fully integrated multinational chain of over 125 diagnostic and more that 800 collection centres across South Asia, Middle East and Africa. Metropolis has become a well-respected healthcare brand, catering to over 50,000 doctors, 10,000 laboratories and hospitals, processing more than 15 million tests annually, with revenues of more than a $100 million annually.[3]

Shah has received several national and international awards in recognition of her entrepreneurial abilities, and her career as a successful female entrepreneur in India.[4]

Board Membership

She has served in the capacity of secretary of the Indian Association of Pathology Laboratories and co-chairperson of Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI) Healthcare Committee in 2012.
