Background
Conceptually and musically, American Drift took inspiration from varying cultural areas. From history, Elysia was inspired by African-American history and Andean culture, the latter of which she is rooted in. She also cited relating late writer José Esteban Muñoz's concepts on 'brownness' with the Earth and its prehistoric geology.[3]
Among the many musical influences credited for American Drift have included Southern hip hop/crunk, Latin metal, North American psychedelic folk, neo-classical music, Pre-Columbian khantus music, ragtime, 1920s blues, her brother's avant-garde records, and her grandfather's huayno and cumbia music.
