Anderson High School is a public high school in the Forest Hills Local School District in Hamilton County, Ohio. It had an average daily student enrollment of 1142 during the 2012-2013 school year.[3] It has an Excellent rating from the Ohio Department of Education, and a "Performance Index" of 109.6; about the same as the Forest Hill's other high school, Turpin.

History

Established in 1929, Anderson High School is a high school in the Greater Cincinnati area. Anderson was a Blue Ribbon School from 1994 - 1996 as awarded by the United States Department of Education [4] When founded, the school mascot was a comet, but more recently the mascot was changed to an Indian warrior, a Redskin.

Student life

Anderson HS's Latin Club functions as a local chapter of both the Ohio Junior Classical League (OJCL)[5] and National Junior Classical League (NJCL).[6]

Athletics

Anderson High School is a member of the Ohio High School Athletic Association (OHSAA) and participates in the Eastern Cincinnati Conference. Participation in the athletic program is open to all boys and girls interested and skilled enough to compete. Anderson offers a wide variety of athletic programs. For boys and girls, these include: cross country, golf, soccer, tennis, basketball, bowling, diving, swimming, and track and field, and academic quiz team. For boys, these include: lacrosse, baseball, football, and wrestling. For girls, these include: gymnastics, volleyball and softball.

Marching band, cheerleading, and dance team are also offered at various times throughout the school year.

Anderson has won one state championship:[7]

Campus

When viewed from the sky from a southern perspective, Anderson High School resembles the shape of a giant 'A'. Many additions have been made to the facility since its 1961 opening.[8]
