André Valentim Almeida (born 1977) is an award winning Portuguese film director, editor and producer. He was awarded the Doc Alliance Award 2014 [1] for his last feature The Quest of the Schooner Creoula.

Almeida’s works deals mostly with subjects of identity, heritage and science and he is known for his personal and intimate style and expertise on editing. He often uses archival footage and merges research and documentation with strong emotional intelligence (“What surprises us the most is the easiness he switches from the most common of the shows (…) to the most dramatical and emotional telling of shipwrecks and maritime disasters”[2]).

Almeida currently lives in Porto. Until 2014 he was Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Fine Arts of University of Porto and he was the Collaborative Studio Director at the Center for Documentary Art UnionDocs in 2011/12.
