Ankush Chaudhari (Marathi: अंकुश चौधरी) is an Indian film actor, screenwriter, director, producer and theatre personality.

He is widely regarded as one of the most popular actors of the Marathi cinema. He first came into the limelight through a role in 1995 marathi drama film Soona Yeti Ghara along with Ashok Saraf, Alka Kubal, Laxmikant Berde, Vaishali Salvi and Pallavi Nevarkar following which he began receiving many offers in Marathi films and TV serials.[1]

He is also popularly known as DSP, his screen name in 2013 blockbuster Duniyadari.

Career

Chaudhari started his career by acting in One Act Plays during his college. In 1991, he participated in Maharashtra chi Lokadhara. After his former plays like Hasa Chakat Fu and All the best, he was seen in some TV serial like ‘Bedhund Manaachi Laher’ and ‘Duniyadari’ on ETV Marathi.

In 1995, Ankush played the vital role in the movie ‘Suna Yeti Ghara’, due to which he came into limelight. In this movie, he worked with Laxmikant Berde, Ashok Saraf, Alka Kubal and more. In 2004, he played the lead role opposite Sonali Khare in the movie ‘Savarkhed Ek Gaav’. The movie was based on the real incident that had taken place in the village name Savarkhed in Maharashtra. Apart from this, he has also worked in the Hindi movie ‘Jis Desh Mein Ganga Rehta Hai’ in 2000, where he had played the role of Govinda’s younger brother.

In 2006, he acted in five Marathi movies like ‘Aai Shappath’, ‘Aaila Re’, ‘Majha Navra Tujhi Bayko’, ‘Matichya Chuli’ and ‘Yanda Kartavya Aahe’ and all these films were super-hit on the box office. In 2007, he directed his first film ‘Saade Maade Teen’ starring Bharat Jadhav, Ashok Saraf and Siddharth Jadhav. In 2008, Ankush acted in the multi-starrer thriller movie ‘Checkmate’ along with Sanjay Narvekar, Swapnil Joshi, Sonali Khare and Rahul Mehendale. In 2009, he played the role of Avinash Sardesai in the movie ‘Gaiir’, directed by Satish Rajwade. The movie also starred Sandeep Kulkarni, Amruta Khanvilkar and Tejaswini Pandit in a lead roles. He also made a guest appearance in the blockbuster movie ‘Mi Shivajiraje Bhosale Bolatoy’. He then played the role of conman name Vishwas in the movie ‘Ringa Ringa’. The movie was directed by Sanjay Jadhav and Ajay-Atul was the music directors.

In 2010, Ankush played the role of Giri Dhuri in Mahesh Manjrekar’s movie ‘Lalbaug Parel’ which was also released in Hindi as ‘City of Gold’. The movie was based on the true life of unemployed mill workers of 1982. In 2011, he played the role of flirt with four different names as Sandy, Suhas, Avinash and Subhan in the movie ‘Zhakaas’. He had romanced with Amruta Khanvilkar, Sai Tamhankar and Pooja Sawant in this movie. In 2012, he acted in two of the super hit movies, ‘Bluffmaster’ and ‘No Entry Pudhe Dhoka Aahey’. In ‘Bluffmaster’ he acted opposite Tejaswini Pandit. In 2013, he directed the movie ‘No Entry Pudhe Dhoka Aahe’. While in ‘No Entry Pudhe Dhoka Aahey’, he was paired opposite Sai Lokur. The movie was the remake of the Bollywood blockbuster movie ‘No Entry’. Ankush has played the role of Prem in the movie, which was originally played by Salman Khan in ‘No Entry’ in 2005.

In 2013, Ankush was seen in the multi-starrer thriller movie ‘Ashach Eka Betavar’ which was loosely based on the old Hindi movie ‘Gumnaam’. Later, he played the role of Jaisimha in the movie ‘Sanshay Kallol’ opposite Gauri Nigudkar. In the same year, he played the role of DSP in the blockbuster Marathi movie ‘Duniyadari’. The movie directed by Sanjay Jadhav and produced by Zee Talkies earned 25 crore on the box office. Swapnil Joshi, Sai Tamhankar, Urmila Kanitkar, Jitendra Joshi and Richa Pariyalli were also the part of this movie. In 2015, Ankush Chaudhari once again portrayed the character of college student named Satya in the superhit marathi movie Classmates directed by Aditya Sarpotdar. The movie also had Sonalee Kulkarni, Sai Tamhankar, Siddharth Chandekar, Sachit Patil in a lead roles.[2] It received positive response from critics as well as viewers. The movie was box office hit and was first hit for Ankush for 2015.[3]

In August his romantic drama film Double Seat released opposite Mukta Barve and directed by Sameer Vidwans.[4] It got tremendous positive reviews from critics and viewers. The movie become one of the highest grossers of 2015 for marathi cinema.[5][6] In October his action crime thriller Daagdi Chaawl releases opposite Pooja Sawant and directed by debutant Chandrakant Kanse.[7] Movie got positive reviews from critics and tremendous response from fans. Movie completed hatrick of blockbuster film for 2015 for Ankush.[8] Movie becomes rage among maharashtrian people for its fast paced speed and action, they gave ankush a Rajnikant style treatment for his Hatrick. This is first time in the history of Marathi cinema that something of this sort has happened. After the release of the action-drama 'Daagdi Chaawl', fans of Marathi cinema's action hero Ankush Choudhary poured milk on a big poster of the actor outside an iconic Bharat Mata cinema hall in Mumbai to show their love for him.[9]

Ankush was seen in Sanjay Jadhav's film Guru opposite Urmila Kanitkar produced by Bagpiper Soda and Eros International[10]

He is also starring in a film Autograph (2017 film) which is directed by Satish Rajwade and also stars Amruta Khanvilkar and Manasi Moghe.It is expected to release in August 2016.

He is also roumered to star in a remake of Malayalam film Charlie. It is tentatively titled Devaa.

He is also starring in film Ti Saddhya Kay Karte which is produced by Zee studios and directed by Satish Rajwade
