Armas-Eino Martola

Armas-Eino Martola (12 May 1896, Raahe – 5 February 1986, Helsinki) was a Finnish general.

Armas-Eino Martola started his military career in 1915, when he joined the Jäger Movement. He fought in the Finnish Civil War as a platoon commander on the side of the Whites. 1919-1921 he studied at the École Militaire in Paris and was military attaché in France between 1928-1931. He then returned to Finland and held the post of chief of staff for the White Guard. He held the position of Division commander during both the Winter War and the Continuation War. In 1944 he was appointed deputy foreign minister and between 1944 and 1946 he served as county governor of Uusimaa Province. He later held high positions in the United Nations as military adviser to Dag Hammarskjöld (1956-1958) and as commander of the United Nations Peacekeeping Force in Cyprus (1966-1970). He also pursued a civilian career in the paper industry.[1]
