Assar Art Gallery

Assar Art Gallery is an art gallery located in Tehran, Iran, opposite the city's Iranian Artists Forum (Khaneh Honarmandan).[1] The gallery is directed by Omid Tehrani and specialises in Iranian contemporary art.

History

The gallery opened on 27 October 1999 in Darakeh, on the foothills of Alborz mountains north of Tehran.[2] The first exhibition held by Assar was a group exhibition consisting of works by 15 well known Iranian Modernist painters such as Aydin Aghdashloo, Mohammad Ehsai and Farideh Lashai. The exhibition opened on the birth date of Hossein Kazemi, one of the pioneers of Iranian Modern Art movement. The gallery later relocated to its current location and began showcasing Iranian contemporary art.

Description

Located in the culturally rich area in the city centre of Tehran,[3] Assar regularly showcases works by its twelve representing artists and periodically exhibits works by a guest artist. Besides exhibitions, Assar is one of the very few art galleries in Iran that regularly participates in international art fairs in the region and beyond., [4][5][6] Assar has also been involved sponsoring cultural events, exhibitions and the publication of artist and art books.
