These are the official results of the men's 800 metres event at the 1992 Summer Olympics in Barcelona, Spain. There were a total number of 63 participating athletes, with eight qualifying heats. Johnny Gray took the race out to the "Gray zone" running the first lap in 49.9 hoping to burn off the competition. His only follower was José Luiz Barbosa. It worked for most of the field, but the two Kenyans Nixon Kiprotich and William Tanui came from behind to run down the depleted front runners on the home stretch.
