Aunty Jack Rox On

Aunty Jack Rox On is a one off ABC television special from the Aunty Jack series. Broadcast on June 8, 1973 (Sydney, ABC), this 30 minute special (standard episode length) featured popular sketches from the previous series, most notable being the 'Tarzan Superape', short rock opera. The special was produced by Maurice Murphy and starred the cast from the previous first series of Grahame Bond as Aunty Jack, Rory O'Donoghue as Thin Arthur, John Derum as Narrator Neville (whom this would be his last appearance in The Aunty Jack Show) and Sandra McGregor as Flange Desire.[1][2]

Features

The episode also featured Stevie Wright, from The Easybeats and AC/DC playing songs such as 'Gypsy', 'Drug', 'Hard Road', 'Feeling Alive And Well', 'Rip Off' and 'The Other Side', under band name Cool Bananas, alongside Grahame Bond as Aunty Jack and Rory O'Donoghue from the cast with George Young, added as band mate from The Easybeats and AC/DC, as well, (the same cast would travel in the live Aunty Jack shows and perform as the Cool Bananas, which inspired the 1982 founded New Zealand band).[3] The show also consisted of many original songs by Grahame Bond, as did most other episodes.[4]

Release Notes

The special was proposed to be released on the Aunty Jack Series 2 disc set, but never made the final release and remains largely unseen and unknown among fans.[5] Only small fragments exist, starring Stevie Wright, amongst other Aunty Jack footage leaked over the internet.[6] The black and white footage shot on video tape and film was restored in 2006 for the proposed DVD release.[7]
