Automic, formerly UC4 Software and SBB Software, is an international software company. It employs more than 650 people who develop, market and sell its ONE Automation platform, software that provides business process automation, application release automation and infrastructure workload automation.

Automic serves a wide range of customers in the energy, financial services, healthcare, manufacturing, retail and telecommunications sectors.

History

UC4, Automic's original company name, was founded in 1985 in Austria by Franz Beranek, and brought its first job scheduler to market in 1996. After opening offices in Europe and the U.S., asset management firm Carlyle Group became the majority shareholder in 2006. UC4 acquired application automation and scheduling provider Appworx in 2007, and integrated Appworx's Large Enterprise Scheduler into their product portfolio.

UC4 acquired the Austrian predictive analytics company SENACTIVE in 2009. With it, the UC4 product portfolio was again expanded to include complex event processing, pattern mapping and extended visualization tools. These were combined with the existing workload automation and job scheduling functionality of UC4.

The company launched its ONE Automation strategy on 15 March 2011, which brought together application process automation, application release, job scheduling/workload automation, managed file transfer, run book automation and virtualization management into a single automation solution.

UC4 acquired Ventum Solutions in 2012, before UC4 itself was acquired by Swedish private equity firm EQT Partners later that same year.

The company was rebranded as Automic in 2013, and expanded the service offering of ONE Automation to embrace trends such as cloud computing, mobile computing and DevOps.

Automic acquired French IT operations specialist ORSYP in 2014, extending its market reach into France and Canada.

On December 1, 2016, CA Technologies (NASDAQ: CA) announced it's intent to acquire Automic for $636 million USD.

Products

Automic offers:

ONE Automation: a technology agnostic, vendor-neutral business automation platform. It uses a single automation engine to manage business processes, enterprise applications and IT infrastructure automation.

ONE Automation helps to consolidate tools and build reusable components that can be composed into larger IT and business workflows. It can be deployed on physical hardware, on virtualized servers or in a cloud-based infrastructure.

Automic Software products have been adopted by a number of customers including Bosch, Netflix, eBay, AMC Theatres, Carphone Warehouse, ExxonMobile, BT Global Services, NHS SBS, General Electric and Swisscom.

According to their website, some other users of Automic Software products are Singapore Exchange, Meezan Bank and TASC.

Board of directors

Vagn Sørensen has been Chairman of Automic's Board of Directors since October 2012. He also currently serves as Chairman of FLSmidth A/S, Scandic Hotels AB and Select Service Partner Ltd.

Per Franzén is a member of Automic's Board of Directors. He is also Head of Equity in Stockholm at EQT Partners.

Henning Kagermann is a member of Automic's Board of Directors. He has previously been Chairman of the Executive Board and CEO of SAP AG, and is currently a member of the Board of Directors of Nokia Corporation and WIPRO.

Jonas Persson has been a member of Automic's Board of Directors since August 2012. He is also CEO of Microsoft Sweden, a member of the Board of Directors for the Stockholm Chamber of Commerce and an Industrial Advisor at EQT Partners.

Bernard Bourigeaud is a member of Automic's Board of Directors. Bernard was the founder and for 17 years Chairman and CEO of Atos Origin. He holds positions on numerous boards, including CGI Group Inc. and Oberthur Technologies SA, where he serves as Chairman, and he is a member of the Global Senior Advisory board of Jefferies Group, Inc. Bernard is also a member of the Governing Board of the International Paralympic Committee, an Operating Partner of Advent International, and is President of Centre d'Etudes et de Prospective Stratégique, an international and independent think tank originating in France.

Leadership team

Todd DeLaughter was appointed CEO in November 2014. Todd has held a wide range of leadership positions in the software technology space particularly in mobility, cloud automation and systems management. Previously Todd was CEO of Mformation Technologies, CEO of Opalis Software, acquired by Microsoft in 2009, and held leadership positions at Compaq and Hewlett Packard. During his tenure as Vice President and General Manager of HP's OpenView management software business, Todd successfully helped double the team's revenue to $1 billion.[1]

Andreas Seidl has been Chief Finance Officer at Automic since August 2008. He is responsible for Automic's corporate planning, financial strategy and commercial financial analysis.

Christopher Vercelli has been Chief Sales Officer at Automic since December 2014. He works closely with the executive team to further Automic's mission and revenue growth by managing sales globally.

Chris Boorman is SVP and Chief Marketing Officer at Automic, where he is responsible for all global marketing initiatives. Previously, Chris has held leadership positions at Huddle, Informatica, Salesforce.com and VERITAS.

John Purrier is Automic's Chief Technology Office since December 2015. John is responsible for driving AUTOMIC's automation strategy. Previously, John was CTO of CenturyLink Innovation Labs. Purrier is a founder and board member of OpenStack.

Günther Flamm has been Executive VP of Customer Success at Automic since May 2014. He directs customer engagement for the company.

Christine Dworschak has been VP of HR at Automic since August 2002. She is responsible for guiding, managing and improving Human Resources services, policies and programs for the company.
