Baltimore Industrial Railroad
The Baltimore Industrial Railroad (reporting mark BDR) is a switching and terminal railroad located on Sparrows Point, Maryland in the industrial sector of Baltimore, Maryland. The Baltimore Industrial is also known as Sparrows Point Rail.
History
The railroad was originally incorporated as the Baltimore & Sparrows Point Railroad Company. Bethlehem Steel took over the railroad in the early 20th Century. In 1916, they renamed the railroad Patapsco and Back Rivers Railroad. PBR operated until 2012, when a major steel mill closed down. In 2014 however, the remainder of the railroad was bought by SPT and named The Baltimore Industrial Railroad.[1]
All railroad power is former PBR power. The main Commodity hauled is steel.
