Barão de Teffé (H-42) was an oceanographic research ship of the Brazilian Navy. She was the first Brazilian Navy ship to bear this name in honor of Admiral Antonio Luis von Hoonholtz. Built as a freighter named Thala Dan at the end of the 1950s in Denmark, she was launched in 1957 and discharged from military service on 23 July 2002.[2]
In 1982 she was acquired by the Brazilian Navy to be adapted and take part in the Operation Antarctica (OPERANTAR 1) of the Brazilian Antarctic Program (PROANTAR),[3] being one of the pioneers of Brazilian missions to Antarctica.
In 2007, Barão de Teffé was reported awaiting wrecking in Rio de Janeiro.[4] After failed Australian attempts to purchase and turn her into a museum ship, she was scrapped in Rio de Janeiro in October 2007.[5]
