The Studio School Luton is a 14–18 vocational studio school located in York Street, Luton, in the English county of Bedfordshire. The school is due to close in September 2016.
Established in September 2010; one of the first two studio schools to be established in England. The school was previously sponsored by the Barnfield Federation of schools, but became part of the Shared Learning Trust in 2015 and was renamed The Studio School Luton.
Pupils at school study for core GCSEs in English, Maths and Science. Students also study for an OCR National in Science and the BTEC First Diploma in Business, as well as choosing a BTEC Certificate or Diploma from Art, PE or Music. In addition pupils pursue a Level 1 or 2 award in a vocational area.[1] Students in the sixth form study for a BTEC Extended Diploma in Business or Enterprise and Entrepreneurship, as well as undertaking up to 12 hours of paid work per week.[2]
In March 2016 it was announced that The Studio School Luton will close at the end of the academic year. The main reason is low pupils at the school, with only 66 pupils currently attending, when the school has a capacity for 300.[3]
