BaseN is an international technology company, headquartered in Helsinki, Finland and operating around the globe. It develops and markets a software as a service (SaaS) suite, the BaseN Platform, for public and private infrastructure data management. The BaseN Platform is a scalable, inherently distributed and fault tolerant Internet of Things (IoT) and spime platform, enabling required scalability for hosting millions of things and millions of spimes.

Besides the Helsinki headquarters additional offices are located in Sunnyvale, California, Atlanta, Georgia and Amsterdam, the Netherlands. BaseN was founded in 2001 by Pasi Hurri (President and CEO) together with of network professionals who have been developing Internet and IP technologies for the last two decades, both in industry and service provider world.

History

BaseN developed its system for telecom networks and has then applied the same technology to clean tech space and can immediately make real time data available to millions of consumers, organizations and households in cost efficient way. The company has developed an advanced monitoring and reporting system which provides better opportunities to monitor and optimize energy consumption and environmental probes.

BaseN is one of the founders of the FennoGrid Association[1] whose purpose is the sharing of information on grid and peer-to-peer research and the promotion of cooperation projects in these fields. BaseN is also a member of the international e-Science consortium Enabling Grids for E-sciencE.

BaseN Energy Awareness Technologies (BEAT)

BaseN Energy Awareness Technologies (BEAT)[2] is a technology that increases energy awareness among consumers and drives large scale energy saving across societies. By making real-time energy consumption data available to each individual consumer, they become aware of their consumption and are encouraged to save energy. The BEAT solution can be rolled out to millions of households and make detailed energy consumption data available on a large scale. This provides the consumer with the opportunity to directly compare the energy efficiency of electrical devices at home and adjust their energy consumption behavior.[3]

Awards

In 2013, BaseN was awarded two industry awards by TM Forum: one for the Most Innovative Catalyst Smart Grid - Empowering the Digital Customer[4] and one for the Most Significant Contribution to Frameworx eHealth – Curing the Complexity[5]
