Bilozirka
Bilozirka (Ukrainian: Білозірка) is a village in Lanivtsi Raion, Ternopil Oblast of western Ukraine.
Names
Bilozirka is known by many alternative names such as Russian: Belozerka, Polish: Białozórka, Yiddish: Bielozorka, Byalozurka, Belozorka.
History
Bilozirka is known since 1545.
In 1900, the Jewish population was 1,070.[1]
In July 1941, the city was occupied by the Germans. In the first week of occupation, several Jewish girls of the city were murdered. Soon, the Germans created a Judenrat, which received the order to transfer ransom payments to them. On February 28, 1942, the Jews of the city were imprisoned in a ghetto and used in forced labor.[2] In mid-August 1942, they were murdered in mass executions. About 20 Jews of the city survived the Holocaust.[3]
