Bharat Forge Limited (BFL), is a Pune-based Indian multinational company involved in automotive, power, oil and gas, construction & mining, locomotive, marine and aerospace industries.
The company was founded by Nilkanthrao Kalyani in 1961. The current chairman of the company is his son, Baba Kalyani. It is part of the Kalyani Group, which is a USD 2.5 billion conglomerate with 10,000 global work force. Amit Kalyani,Baba Kalyani's son, is the Executive Director of the company.
The company has made a strong foray into the Defence and Aerospace sectors and is moving from being a components manufacturer to a complete product maker. High-profile partnerships and JVs with a high success rate have been the cornerstone of Bharat Forge's success.
It is highly awarded for Safety, HR and manufacturing quality and practices.
Bharat Forge has signed a Joint Venture with France-based power generation company Alstom for turbines and generators. The Alstom holds 51% of the shares and Bharat Forge 49% in the joint venture. Alstom Bharat Forge Power Ltd also has started its manufacturing facility at Sanand in Gujarat.[2]
In 2015, Bharat Forge had total sales of over US$ 1.3 Billion and has a market capitalisation of over US$4.5 billion. It was rated as one of the best companies in Asia by the Forbes magazine because of its high growth rate.
Currently Bharat Forge has manufacturing operations in four locations:
1. Mundhwa: Forging and machining facility spread across 100 acres. This forging facility is known as the largest forging facility in the world.
2. Satara: General engineering division
3. Baramati: Forging and machining facility. This facility is known for its ring rolling presses.
4. Chakan: State-of-the-art machining facility.
Bharat Forge today has the largest repository of metallurgical knowledge in the region and offers full service capability to its geographically dispersed marquee customers from concept to product design,engineering, manufacturing, testing and validation
SEZ- Bharat Forge's Special Economic Zone (SEZ) named as Khedcity[3] is the biggest SEZ in Pune spread over 1,000 hectares (4200Acre) of notified land in Khed taluka.[4][5]
Legacy
Bharat Forge has built strong commercial and engineering partnerships with Major OEMs across the world. Roughly 1 out of every 2 trucks in North America have Bharat Forge's Axle Beams.
BFL's "bread and butter" products include Front Axle Beams, Steering Knuckles, Connecting Rods and Crankshafts. As part of its risk mitigation efforts, BFL diversified into a variety of Industrial sectors including Oil & Gas, Infrastructure, Marine etc. It is aiming to double its revenues by 2020 and is one of the favorite stocks in the Bombay Stock Exchange.
