Bharat Tandon is an entrepreneur from India. Born in Delhi, the capital city, he attended the prestigious Modern School Barakhamba Road and later went on to complete his undergraduate studies at the Shri Ram School of Commerce, New Delhi. Bharat Tandon received an MBA degree from The Fuqua School of Business, Duke University, North Carolina.
After returning to India with his master's degree, he started his first business- CO2 plant, to supply to aerated drink manufacturers across India. After a profitable run, foreseeing the competition from Industrial giants like Coke which had just entered the Indian market, Bharat Tandon sold his first company. With some expertise in the Petro-chemical industry, he and his father Kamal Tandon began selling and distributing products for Saudi-based corporation- SABIC, now one of the world's largest petrochemical companies with annual net profits of US$7.80 billion in 2011. Later the Tandons' and SABIC went on to form a partnership and set up SABIC India Pvt. Ltd. He currently serves as President and CEO of SABIC India. Bharat Tandon has also started his own Polyethylene manufacturing business, BTR Packaging Pvt. Ltd. in partnership with a US based firm.
Philanthropy
Bharat Tandon has donated $200,000 to The Fuqua School of Business, Duke University, to set up the 'Tandon Family Scholarship Endowment'. In 2013 Tandon received the 'Forever Duke' Award for his dedication and service to Duke University. He is also the recipient of the Award for Exemplary Service from Duke University in 2010–11. Currently Bharat Tandon serves on the Board of Visitors at Duke University.
Personal life
Bharat Tandon is married to Mahip Tandon and the couple has two sons, Mihir (born 29 September 1989) and Nikhil (born 27 February 1995). A keen golfer, Tandon can often be seen frequenting the golf courses in and around the national capital.
