Bielerhöhe Pass Bielerhöhe Pass |
The Bielerhöhe Pass (elevation 2071 m, 6,795 ft) is a high mountain pass in the Austrian Alps between the Bundesländer of Vorarlberg and Tyrol.
It connects Montafon in Vorarlberg and the Paznaun valley in Tyrol. At the top of the pass are several restaurants and hotels.
The pass is closed to normal traffic from November to April. Mini-buses run during the winter to take skiers to the ski resort.
Nearby is the highest peak in Vorarlberg, the Piz Buin (3312 m) and the Silvrettasee, which is frozen solid most years by the end of January and covered with snow.
The 'Bielerhöhe' connects the Vorarlberg Montafon with the Tirol Paznaun. The pass lies on just north of the Silvretta reservoir and is in the Vorarlberg region. The Bielerhöhe is the highest approachable point of the Silvretta High Alpine Road, a toll street on the Bielerhöhe, which is closed due to its exposed position in the winter. However, you then reach the pass from Partenen (Vorarlberg) via a cableway and a tunnel of Vorarlberger Illwerke AG and the last piece of the usual mountain road under a taxi service.
