Blazing Samurai is an upcoming American computer-animated action comedy film directed by Chris Bailey and Mark Koetsier and written by Ed Stone and Nate Hopper. The film stars Michael Cera, Samuel L. Jackson, Michelle Yeoh, Ricky Gervais, Mel Brooks, and George Takei. The film will be released on August 4, 2017 by Open Road Films.
Plot
The story revolves around a scrappy young dog Hank (Michael Cera) who dreams of becoming a samurai and fights to save the town called "Kakamucho" from becoming a litter box of a nefarious feline warlord Ika Chu (Ricky Gervais) who unveils his grand plan to get rid of the inhabitants.

Production
On February 5, 2015, Open Road Films acquired the US rights to the Mass Animation's animated film Blazing Samurai scheduling it for an April 14, 2017 release.[4] Chris Bailey & Mark Koetsier were hired to direct the film based on the script by Ed Stone & Nate Hopper. The film would be produced by Rob Minkoff through Cinemation, Yair Landau and Susan Purcell through Mass Animation.[4] The film was revealed to be inspired by Mel Brooks' classic film Blazing Saddles.[1] Mass Animation developed the script, Jam Filled Toronto (Arc Productions) would serve as the animation house for the film,[1] and GFM would handle the international sales. Sony Pictures Releasing acquired rights to some international countries.
Release
Blazing Samurai was previously scheduled to release on April 14, 2017.[4] Later in November 2015, Open Road Films pushed back the release date to August 4, 2017 with the other animated film Spark took over the April 14, 2017 release date.[1]
