The third season of the animated television series BoJack Horseman premiered exclusively via Netflix's web streaming service on July 22, 2016.[1] The season consists of 12 episodes.[2]

Despite this, BoJack's agent Ana makes the matter disappear. Meanwhile, Princess Carolyn struggles in her new agency, and Diane accidentally tweets "Spujb."

In this flashback episode to 2007, Princess Carolyn gets BoJack a job on another TV show after Horsin' Around with an acclaimed director. However, after multiple changes to the pilot (insisted upon by BoJack), the show flops. Mr. Peanutbutter, then married to Jessica Biel, meets Diane, who is working in a coffeehouse under the name "Blarn". Todd is dating a girl named Emily, whose father he believes to be in the Mafia.

NOTE: The closing theme is modified to mock BoJack's unsuccessful show.

Secretariat is released nationally, and is an instant hit. Newly confident, BoJack and Todd crash a wedding dinner rehearsal, where BoJack accidentally convinces a bride to back out of her wedding. Ultimately, BoJack is forced to help her get back together with her fiancée. Meanwhile, Todd befriends Emily again at the wedding, and nearly has a one-night stand with her, only to back out at the last minute. On Princess Carolyn's night off, she has three dates, the last of which is with a mouse, with whom she hits it off. Finally, Diane and Mr. Peanutbutter learn that Diane is pregnant after she has a drug experience.

Diane and Mr. Peanutbutter decide to have an abortion. While ghostwriting a text for teen pop star Sextina Aquafina, Diane accidentally tweets out that Sextina is having an abortion. This tweet leads to national controversy, though Sextina later uses "her" abortion to boost her popularity. Soon after, Sextina has her "abortion" on live television, and later reveals to Princess Carolyn and Diane that she is pregnant for real, which leads to both thinking up plans of what to do with Sextina for the following year. Prankster and A-list actor Jurj Clooners gets under BoJack's skin.

Mr. Peanutbutter announces the Oscar nominees, of whom BoJack is one. As he celebrates, BoJack becomes more involved with his admirers, while his friendships start to falter. Diane has to come and check on him because she thinks he can't be happy and that he will kill himself eventually. However, it is later revealed that Mr. Peanutbutter had lost the envelope containing the real nominees, and BoJack had never been nominated in the first place, Thus causing his prized possession chocolate oscar replica bunny to be confiscated. After this happens, Bojack is happy that Todd comes back, but then he scolds him after convincing mr.peanutbutter not to nominate bojack for an oscar category for any category. Bojack continues to be furious with Todd by stating all of the favors he has done for him like indulging him on his childhood story's, letting him live at his house for the past 5 years, and letting him turn his own house into his company's headquarters. Todd claims that Bojack didn't do that because he was his friend but only because he did it for Emily, After he accuses him off ruining his relationship with her, he states he had sex with her and he did not think that was the reason she left. Bojack then feels sorry for himself only to be told by Todd that he can't keep felling sorry for himself thinking it makes everything he does okay and needs to be a better person. Bojack then makes an excuse about how it's the oscar's campaign fault and that he's drunk and when he sobers up plus the oscar nominee sorrow is over, he'll be a better person. Todd calls him out by telling him "you're what everything's wrong with you, it's not the drugs or the alcohol, or all the shitty things that's happen in your career, or from when you were a kid, it's you, it's you."

On a drug-fueled bender, BoJack and Sarah Lynn crash a AA meeting, and BoJack decides to make amends to the people he hurt. However, BoJack's attempts at reconciliation are hindered by drug-induced blackouts. Eventually, both BoJack and Sarah Lynn realize that they don't like themselves, and decide to go back to Los Angeles after Sarah Lynn wins an Oscar (which she had completely forgotten about). The two visit a planetarium, where BoJack ponders their existence in the universe. While doing this, Sarah Lynn passes away in her sleep in Bojack's arms.

All of BoJack's decisions culminate in a pasta catastrophe for Pacific Ocean City, and all of Mr. Peanutbutter's decisions result in his being the only possible savior. Unfortunately, he turns his phone off as he goes into a two hour movie, but he saves the day afterwards. Mr. Peanutbutter is later contacted by his ex-wife Katrina about running for Governor of California. Todd gets exciting news when he becomes a millionaire through his business, and he finds comfort in Emily, being able to admit his asexuality. He then immediately blows all his money on the waitress' tip. Diane receives a job writing for a feminist blog, while Princess Carolyn pursues her newly-realized dream to become a manager. It is implied that BoJack may have a daughter, as a teenage horse is seen trying to get in contact with him. On the set of Ethan Around, a sequel series to Horsin' Around, BoJack gives encouragement to his young co-star. When she says she wants to be like him when she's older, he panics and runs off the set. BoJack drives to a stretch of road out in the desert, and attempts suicide by letting go of the wheel while accelerating. He stops when he sees wild horses running alongside the highway on a New Mexican reservation.

Reception

Rotten Tomatoes gives the third season an approval rating of 100%, based on 23 reviews, with an average rating of 9.2/10. The site's critical consensus reads, "Skillfully puncturing the idea of celebrity and our culture's bizarre obsession with it, BoJack Horseman's third season continues its streak as one of the funniest and most heartbreaking shows on television."[3] On Metacritic, the season received a score of 89 out of 100, based on 12 reviews, indicating "universal acclaim".[4]
