"Bookie of the Year" is the second episode of the fifteenth season of the animated sitcom Family Guy, and the 271st episode overall. It aired on Fox in the United States on October 2, 2016, and is written by Daniel Peck and directed by Jerry Langford.[1] The episode's title is a play on the 1993 film Rookie of the Year.
This episode was dedicated in memory of Frank Sinatra Jr. who died from cardiac arrest on March 16, 2016 sometime after recording this episode.
Plot
Chris is troubling the family over his emerging anger issues, including an incident at the Feast of San Gennaro, where he wrecks a Whac-A-Mole-type game called "Whack A Big Pussy", wherein one is supposed to hit a figure of Big Pussy Bonpensiero from "The Sopranos"; he destroys it out of anger that he had been misled by the name, and that he did not hit any figures, so they try to help him get over it. Peter starts by having Chris throw rotten apples at cars, as Peter demonstrates it on Mayor Adam West's car. Chris then hits a car driven by the high school baseball leader Coach Doyle, who is impressed by Chris' rocket arm and offers him a spot on the team. Chris takes the offer and Peter doesn't have high hopes, leading him to angrily bet $100 when a fellow fan yells that Chris shouldn't be in the game. To Peter's shock, Chris turns out to be an outstanding pitcher (his right arm has been strengthened by years of rigorous masturbation) and brags about Chris' exploits to his friends at the Drunken Clam, inspiring Quagmire, Cleveland and Joe Swanson to become bookies and make money by fleecing people who understandably don't expect Chris to be any good at baseball.
Meanwhile, Stewie and Brian reunite with Frank Sinatra Jr. at the Feast of San Gennaro, who plans to turn a condemned building into an Italian restaurant. After the restaurant is made, people don't come to the opening night, so the trio sing a song that brings in customers.
At the Drunken Clam, Peter, Quagmire, Cleveland and Joe see Tom Tucker's TV report expose Chris' ability as he announces that James Woods High is going to play for the district championship. The guys bemoan how they're going to lose a lot of money. However, Joe states that plenty of people are betting on James Woods High School to win the district championships, so Peter asks Chris (in Spanish that they somehow each speak fluently) to throw the game so he can win the money. Chris drowns his sorrow and tells Lois about what Peter said, prompting Lois to tell Chris to defy him. When Peter unleashes his frustrations to the guys, they misinterpret Peter saying that they should break Chris' arm to save the bets and they then dress up as Archie Comic-style teenagers and violently attack Chris.
Despite the restaurant's success, Brian notices that the restaurant is losing money, and this is due to Frank giving food away for free. There was also a mentioning that Frank is planning on doing a duet with Lady Gaga. When they ask Frank to stop, he concedes. However, it turns out that the people only eat here due to the free food, so the customers leave, ruining Frank's business. Frank departs as well, stating that he is heading to Miami. When Brian suggests to Stewie that they take the remaining wines and set the place on fire, Stewie suggests that they turn off the lights and exit the restaurant similar to the final episode of Cheers first. Once that is done and they tell the person outside that the restaurant is closed, the restaurant is set on fire.
When Quagmire, Cleveland, and Joe tell Peter about their attack on Chris, an appalled Peter consoles Chris and admits he has been a bad father who didn't support his son's gift and selfishly used it for his own ends, leading to Chris' wounds. To Peter's surprise, Chris persists on being in the game, since his left arm has been 'picking up the slack' due to his right arm being exhausted, but he misthrows and injures Quagmire's arm.
At the Griffins' house, Lois tell Chris that they are proud of him. It was mentioned that Chris also accidentally knocked out Coach Doyle. With no one to remove Chris from the field, he walked 46 batters in a row and the team lost badly, earning Peter and his friends all of their betting money. Peter is put in an awkward position when Chris says that he kissed the driver of a Camaro. Peter then awkwardly quotes "baseball."
