Trianel Windpark Borkum (formerly Borkum West II) is a 200+200MW wind farm partially in operation near Borkum.[2] The project was approved for construction in 2008[3] and will cost over €1 billion to construct once fully operational (€900m for phase I alone). The wind farm will have 80 wind turbines. Originally known as Borkum West II the name was changed to Trianel Windpark Borkum in early 2013.
Phase 1 of the installation was completed in the 4th quarter of 2014 and consist of 40 Areva M5000-116 turbines (5MW turbines) on Tripod foundations.[4] It was connected to the grid in August 2015 [5]
Phase 2 of the installation will consist of 40 Adwen AD 5-135 (5MW turbines).[6]
