Bruce Hopkins (surf lifesaver)

Bruce "Hoppo" Hopkins (born 12 November 1968) is a professional lifeguard and head of the Waverley Council lifeguards based in the Eastern Suburbs of Sydney. He can be seen on the factual television series Bondi Rescue.[1]

Career

Hopkins briefly worked for 2GB prior to becoming a full-time lifeguard. He has worked as a lifeguard with Waverley Council, which oversees Bondi, Tamarama and Bronte Beaches, since 1991 and has been involved in more resuscitations than any other lifeguard in the service.[2] He was appointed head lifeguard in 2000 and is one of the longest serving and most experienced lifeguards on the roster.[3]

In 2006 he won the Australian Lifeguard of the year award,[4] and has recently picked up 2 Gold medals at the Australian Surf Lifesaving titles in the Double Ski and the Board Paddle.[2]

In 2008, Hopkins became the face of Stella and Marco, a skincare range, and has also appeared in campaigns for Holeproof underwear.[1][5]

Personal life

Hopkins was raised in Bronte and has been competing in surf competitions since the age of six.He has two daughters, Lauren (18) and Georgia (14)[2]

He married his girlfriend, Stacey Woods in March 2015. They divorced in early 2016.
