Brycen Martin (born May 9, 1996) is a Canadian professional ice hockey defenceman. He is currently playing under contract as a prospect to the Buffalo Sabres in the National Hockey League (NHL). Martin was selected by the Sabres in the third round (74th overall) of the 2014 NHL Entry Draft.

Playing career

Martin was selected by the Swift Current Broncos second overall in the 2011 WHL Bantam Draft.[1] He has played with the Swift Current Broncos from the 2011–12 WHL season.[2] His outstanding play was rewarded when he was chosen to skate in the 2014 CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.[3]

Martin was rated as a top prospect who was viewed as a possible first round selection in the 2014 NHL Entry Draft;[4][5] however, he was not taken until the third round when the Buffalo Sabres drafted him 74th overall.[6]

After his final junior season with the Saskatoon Blades and Everett Silvertips in 2015–16, Martin was signed to a three-year entry-level contract with the Buffalo Sabres on May 21, 2016.[7]

International play

As a 15-year-old he represented Canada at the 2012 Winter Youth Olympics,[8] and he helped the Canada Pacific squad capture a Silver Medal at the 2013 World U-17 Hockey Challenge.[9]
