Loyie Nawlin "Buddy" Humphrey (September 29, 1935 – April 21, 1988) was an American collegiiate and professional American football quarterback. He played professionally in the National Football League for the Los Angeles Rams, Dallas Cowboys, and the St. Louis Cardinals, and in the American Football League for the Houston Oilers. Humphrey played college football at Baylor University and was drafted in the second round of the 1959 NFL Draft.

Early life

Humphrey attended and played high school football at Kilgore High School in Kilgore, Texas.

College career

Humphrey attended and played college football at Baylor University, where he was an All-Conference player at quarterback. He scored the winning touchdown on a quarterback sneak in Baylor's 1957 Sugar Bowl victory.

Humphrey was inducted into the Baylor Hall of Fame.

Professional career

Humphrey was drafted by the Los Angeles Rams in the second round of the 1959 NFL Draft, as result of a trade with the Washington Redskins. He was a member of the Rams during the 1959 and 1960 season. In 1961 he was traded to the Dallas Cowboys. Humphrey left the Cowboys at the end of the 1961 season and was a member of the St. Louis Cardinals from 1963 through 1965. In 1966 Buddy played for the American Football League's Houston Oilers.

After football

After his professional football career was over, Humphrey had a very successful career as a high school football coach and educator. He served as head coach, principal and athletic director for his home town of Kilgore, Texas.

Humphrey died April 21, 1988, in Gregg County, Texas.
