CMJ University [1] (Hindi: सीएमजे विश्वविद्यालय) or CMJU is a private university located in Jorabat, Meghalaya, India. Created through a state act in 2009,[2] it is the first private university established in Meghalaya.

CMJ University was established in the year 2009 by an Act of Meghalaya State Legislature under the CMJ University, Act , 2009 ( Act 4 of 2009 ) vide Notification No. LL (B) 42/09/80 dated 20th July, 2009. The CMJ University is notified by UGC (Ministry of HRD ,Government of India) as state private University under section 2(f) and empowered to award Diploma,Bachelor,Master and Doctorate degrees as specified by the UGC under section 22 of UGC Act 1956, as per Notification P.NO 8-21/2010 (CPP-1/PU)dated 25th November,2010.

The campus is situated on a 40-acre campus on a hillock in Jorabat on the Guwahati-Shillong Highway. The campus has the following faculties: Faculty of Engineering &Technology, Faculty of Arts, Faculty of Science, Faculty of Management, Faculty of Law. As per the circular of Government of India. Vide No.F 18-27/70-T2 dated 20th November 1970, all degrees awarded by the Universities in India incorporated by an Act of Central or State Legislature stand automatically recognized by Government of India for the purpose of employment. CMJ University is a bonafide university established by a state Act, its degree recognized for Government jobs in all over India.

In July 2015, the High court of Meghalaya set aside the dissolution of CMJ University Meghalaya.[3]
