CMP Technology (formerly CMP Media) is a business-to-business multimedia company that provides information and integrated marketing services to technology professionals worldwide. CMP offers marketers and advertisers comprehensive solutions including print, newsletters, custom Web sites and events. Its products and services include newspapers, magazines, Internet products, research, education and training, trade shows and conferences, direct marketing services and custom publishing.
Headquartered in Manhasset, New York, today CMP is part of United Business Media plc, a global information company providing group professional media and news distribution.
Markets served
CMP divides the market into the builders, sellers and buyers of technology. The company publishes 80 business-to-business publications, operates 120 web sites and hosts 150 face-to-face events each year.
Publications for the builders of technology include EETimes and Dr. Dobb's Journal. Publications for the sellers of technology include CRN and VARBusiness. Publications for the buyers of technology include InformationWeek, Network Computing for the corporate IT user; and targeted publications for the financial industry (Wall Street & Technology, Insurance & Technology, and Bank Systems & Technology). Custom publications include DB2 Magazine, IBM Database Magazine, and Smart Enterprise.
CMP Technology co-produces the Web 2.0 Summit along with O'Reilly Media, and is the owner of the USPTO Service Mark 'WEB 2.0'.
History
In 1971, Gerard "Gerry" Leeds and his wife, Lilo, founded the company. Their sons Michael and Daniel managed the company in 1988, and launched TechWeb. CMP was sold to United Business Media's Miller Freeman in 1999 and in 2000, the IT portion of Miller Freeman was merged into CMP. In 2008, UBM broke CMP into pieces. "Today, the name is gone and what's left of the company is part of the British media conglomerate, UBM plc," according to Newsday.[1]
Recent acquisitions include Semiconductor Insights, LightReading, MediaLive International, Black Hat and Shorecliff Communications.
