Camp Jam Co.

Camp Jam Co., headquartered in Atlanta, Georgia, United States, is a consortium of music-experience programs designed to teach teamwork and musical skills through rock music. Founded in 2004 by Jeff Carlisi, founder and former guitarist of 38 Special (band), and business partner Dan Lipson, Camp Jam Co. offers experiences for musicians of all ages and all skill levels.

Camp Jam

Camp Jam is a rock ‘n’ roll summer day and overnight camp for kids and teens (in 22 cities in 2012). The camp provides teens a place to convene with other musicians, bands, and vocalists, honing their musical skills by learning from and performing with professional musicians while promoting skills such as teamwork and communication. The camp is five days long (the overnight program is seven days) and has instruction in guitar, bass, keyboard, drums, and vocals as well as a songwriting clinic, an open mic showcase, a class on performance skills and a course in audio engineering and production.

Sessions take place in Atlanta, GA; Birmingham, AL; Chicago, IL; Cleveland, OH; Dallas, TX; Denver, CO; Fairfield, CT; Houston, TX; Montreal, Quebec; Orange County, CA; Orlando, FL; Phoenix, AZ; Pittsburgh, PA; St. Louis, MO; and Washington, DC.[1] The Atlanta branch was the original location of Camp Jam.

Camp Jam KIDZ

Camp Jam KIDZ is a summer day camp program for children ages 7–10 (same cities as Camp Jam - new in 2009) and gives them the chance to play the instrument of their choice for the week. Camp Jam KIDZ participants experience a similar setup as the older campers but with a more hands-on focus from the instructors as they prepare the kids for their very first performance at the end of the week where they perform on stage with their Camp Jam bands.[2]

Camp Jam Overnight

Camp Jam Overnight is an extension of the Camp Jam day sessions and takes place in Long Island, Boston, Wash DC, Boulder, CO, San Diego, San Francisco, Seattle, Dallas, Chicago, Miami, Pittsburgh, and Atlanta. In addition to the typical Camp Jam daytime activities, overnight participants have an extended curriculum on, "songwriting, make an MTV-style video, band marketing, writing, recording, and releasing the bands song, attend additional master classes, and perform acoustic concerts during their weeklong session culminating with 3 concerts."[3]

Camp Jam Afterschool

Camp Jam Afterschool is for kids ages 10–16, and holds sessions for twelve weeks that last ninety minutes each either after school or on Saturdays. Students enrolled may also participate in an extra half hour of instrument-specific, individual lessons. The program is held in Atlanta and Houston, and offers similar activities and experiences as Camp Jam.[4]

Camp Jam’s Rock 'n' Roll Experience

Camp Jam’s Rock 'n' Roll Experience (formerly known as Camp Jam's Ultimate Rock 'n' Roll Get-A-Way) is a rock and roll experience for adults ages 21 and over which includes two and a half days of instruction and rehearsals with well-known musicians including Jim Peterik of Survivor (band) and Liberty DeVitto, drummer for Billy Joel. The program takes place in Atlanta, GA (as of 2009).[5]

Camp Jam INC

Camp Jam INC is a corporate rock ‘n’ roll team building experience that offers companies and corporate teams a crash course in becoming a band. The participants will determine the roles of each member, name the band, choose songs to play, and come together for a performance. This experience is designed to help stimulate creativity, foster cooperation and build team trust. No musical experience is necessary, as team members will learn directly from professional musicians. The program follows a designed curriculum and is facilitated by a certified corporate trainer to ensure each team achieves its fullest potential.[6]

Camp Jam Studios

Camp Jam Studios is a full-service rehearsal and concert facility in Atlanta, GA that houses rehearsal rooms and provides guitar, bass, drum and vocal lessons for all levels of experience. Camp Jam Studios also offers Saturday Rock 'n' Roll Matinee, where individual musicians under the age of 18 gather, match up with like-minded musicians and start playing together with the intent of starting a band. This facility is also where Camp Jam Rock Star Fantasy Camp and Camp Jam KIDZ takes place.

Camp Jam on MTV

During July 2008, an MTV production crew of ten filmed a session of Camp Jam Overnight in Chicago for an episode of a new series entitled “True Life Presents: Camp’d Out,” a spinoff of the MTV documentary series True Life. The producers followed four campers that MTV chose due to their background and musical talent. These musicians participated in a typical Camp Jam Overnight session, and then concluded the week with a Friday night concert held at the House of Blues in Chicago. The episode, entitled “I’m Going to Rock Camp,” first aired on January 3, 2009.[7]
