John Chadwick "Chad" Barefoot[7] (born May 10, 1983) is the state senator from North Carolina's 18th district.[1][8] A native of Thomasville,[8] he won his first election in 2012.[2] The district covers parts of eastern Wake and Franklin counties.[9] Sen. Barefoot sits on six committees during the 2013–14 session of the North Carolina General Assembly.[1] They include the Appropriations Committee on Education/Higher Education.[10] He is also vice-chair of the Education/Higher Education policy committee.
Election results
In his first run for elective office, Barefoot won a three-way Republican primary race over Rep. Glen Bradley and Michael Shriver in May 2012.[11]
He faced incumbent Sen. Doug Berger in the general election in November 2012, and won with approximately 55 percent of the vote.[2]
