Chilean science fiction
Science fiction in Chile has its origins in the late of the 19th century with the publication of the books El espejo del mundo (1875) of the English Benjamín Tallman and Desde Jupiter (1878) of Francisco Miralles.
Later and during the 20th century, numerous authors contributed to this literary subgenre, between them Pedro Sienna, Vicente Huidobro, Juan Emar, Luis Enrique Délano, Enrique Araya, Armando Menedín, and Ariel Dorfman. However, it was in the decade of 1950, with the publication of Los altísimos of Hugo Correa, when the Chilean science fiction was really considered. Because this author was translated to more than 10 languages and his works were compiled in the famous Magazine of Fantasy and Scientifiction, being prized by Ray Bradbury.
Nowadays, the most important authors are Sergio Meier (author of La segunda Enciclopedia de Tlön (2007), Jorge Baradit (author of Synco, Ygdrasil and Lluscuma), Alvaro Bisama (author of Caja Negra and Ruido), Diego Muñoz Valenzuela (author of Flores para un Cyborg (relato), Los hijos del cyborg), Sergio Alejandro Amira (author of Identidad Suspendida, Kitsune, Co-author de Psique, creator of theLa sombra de fuego (relato) superheroina Atómica) and Alberto Rojas (author of La sombra de fuego (relato)).
A place of diffusion of the literature of science fiction in Chile is Puerto de Escape, a space created by Marcelo Novoa, author of the anthology Años Luz . Mapa Estelar de la Ciencia Ficción en Chile (2006), in this website distinguished specialists collaborate in the matter like Sergio Meier, Luis Saavedra, Raúl Martínez, Marisol Utreras, Alexis Figueroa and Roberto Pliscoff, among others. This last site has possibly the greatest library of Chilean Science Fiction.
Cinema
In Chile, the short film “Renacimiento” of Inti Carrizo, acclimatised in the universe of Star Wars, received the Audience Choice Award Lucasfilm SWFMC 2010, awarded by the company Lucasfilm, producer of the saga Star Wars.
