Not for profit organisation "Les Écrans des Mondes", founded in 2007 in Paris, organises this annual independent Chinese documentary film festival, known in France as "Les Écrans de Chine." The festival was set up to promote dialogue about and understanding of modern-day China. Michel Noll, a documentary producer and director himself, is the festival president. He is also founder of ICTV, the documentary production and distribution company that organises the festival.

The Festival has also begun to run on a European level with several screenings taking place in Italy, Germany, Greece and Finland during the week of the festival.
