Chris Johnson (born November 1957) is a health and wellness speaker and author. He is the founder and CEO of On Target Living, a wellness consulting company which attempts to help organizations achieve fitness goals and increase efficiency. He speaks to businesses on the health and wellness behaviors needed to improve energy and increase productivity in the office.[1] Johnson holds a master's degree in exercise physiology and certifications from the American College of Sports Medicine and the American Council on Exercise.[2]
Early life and career
Johnson was born November 22, 1957 in Lansing, Michigan. In 1982 Johnson married Paula. In 1984-85 Johnson attended Michigan State University while also working at Frito Lay. Johnson entered the Exercise Physiology graduate program there, earning a Master's degree in 1989.[3] In 1986, his twins, Matt and Kristen were born.
Towards the end of graduate school, Johnson interned at Butterworth Metropolitan Wellness Center in Grand Rapids, Michigan, speaking to companies about high blood pressure, cholesterol and blood testing. He then worked with Barry Saltman opening WellAware Fitness center. He worked with high risk clients, COPD, heart replacement and diabetes.
In 1991, Johnson started a fitness program at Sparrow Health System's Michigan Athletic Club (MAC). At the MAC,[4] he also started seminars called FYI, and started a speaking on the topic he called "Meal Patterning", about nutrition.
Within the next year he wrote his first solo book, spiral bound, called Meal Patterning. Johnson continued to recruit membership for the MAC and his personal training, earning $1,000,000 in revenue. In 2003 he rewrote Meal Patterning and a self published a hard copy and audio CD. In 2006 He met with a branding specialist and developed and created "On Target Living".
He then came out with two books called On Target Living Nutrition and On Target Living Cooking. At that time, the "On Target Living" version of the food target was created. Johnson left MAC in 2008 to start speaking full-time. In the next few years he created two fitness DVDs. In 2012, he created the "Kids Food Target" and wrote On Target Living: Your Guide to a Life of Balance, Energy and Vitality, which was published in 2013.
Johnson received the 2014 "Socially Responsible Entrepreneur Award" by Greater Lansing Business Monthly.[5] He also earned the "Certified Speaking Professional" (CSP) designation from the National Speakers Association in 2012.[6]
Johnson resides in Okemos, Michigan with his wife Paula.
