Sylvan Esso is the eponymous debut studio album by American electropop group Sylvan Esso, released May 12, 2014 via Partisan Records.[1] The band consists of singer Amelia Meath (of Mountain Man) and producer Nick Sanborn (of Megafaun).[6] The album reached #39 on the Billboard 200 and #7 on the Independent Albums chart,[7] and as of November 2014 has sold 39,000 copies.[8]

Critical reception

The album has received positive reviews from critics, with a score of 77 out of 100 on Metacritic, based on 18 reviews.[9] James Christopher Monger of AllMusic awarded the album three-and-a-half out of five stars, calling the album "club- and café-ready, artsy and cool".[1] Tom Breihan of Stereogum called the album "a breezy, joyous piece of work", as well as selecting it as an Album of the Week for May 2014.[10] Lior Phillips of Consequence of Sound gave the album a positive review and stated that the combination of Meath and Sanborn for the album is "a true achievement for a duo who are just starting to sow their musical seeds".[11]
