Columbiana Centre is a Columbia, South Carolina, shopping mall located off Interstate 26/U.S. Route 76 on Harbison Boulevard that opened in 1990. The regional mall has 820,000 square feet (76,000 m2) of retail space. Its anchors include Belk, Dillard's, and JCPenney. A fourth anchor, Sears, closed in 2014 to be replaced by a men's Belk in early 2015.[2]
History
Columbiana Centre, developed by Homart Development Co., opened in 1990 with two anchor stores: Belk and Sears.[3] Dillard's was added as the third anchor in 1993, as was a new wing extending diagonally north.[3] In 1995, JB White was added as another anchor.[3] In 1998, JB White was bought out by Dillard's and the JB White location in the mall was closed. Belk took over the former JB White space and Parisian came to the mall in the former Belk space.[3] 2005 brought about the closure of Parisian and brought JC Penney into the former Parisian space.[3] The next major anchor change was brought about by March 2014's closure of Sears.[4] 2015 brought an expanded Belk Men's Store to the former Sears space, adding 50,000 square feet of space for Belk and making it one of Belk's flagship stores.[5] A Red Robin Restaurant is also opening in November 2015 and a Dave and Buster's Restaurant and Arcade and bar is slated to open in 2016.[6]
Former stores that Columbiana Centre has had during the past 26 years include Abercrombie & Fitch, The Disney Store, Sanrio, Suncoast Motion Picture Company (videos and DVDs), GameStop, RadioShack, and Atlanta Bread Company. These stores are still in business elsewhere. The mall had a Waldenbooks, which is now out of business, and had the Challenges arcade in the food court in the 90s.
