Comanche Nation College is a two-year, open admissions, American Indian tribal community college. It is located in Lawton, Oklahoma, the capital of the Comanche Nation. The school was chartered by the Comanche Nation Business Committee.[1]
History
A Comanche Nation Charter Resolution established CNC as a community college in 2002. CNC was the first Tribal College established in the state of Oklahoma.[2]
Governance
The Comanche Nation established a Comanche Nation College Council of leaders in higher education. The Comanche Nation is federally recognized as a Tribe of Oklahoma. The Comanche Nation has 13,679 enrolled Tribal members, with about 6,000 members living in the Lawton-Fort Sill area of southwest Oklahoma.[2]

Programs
CNC offers programs in:
- accounting,
- art,
- American Indian studies,
- business,
- police training,
- education,
- speech/communications,
- human services,
- LPN,
- mathematics, and
- science.[2]
Partnerships
The college is member of the American Indian Higher Education Consortium and American Association of Community Colleges. It is the 36th member of the organization and the first tribal college in Oklahoma.[1] The college is partnering with Cameron University in Lawton, and students are dually-enrolled.[3]
The Oklahoma Board of Nursing recently approved of the college's two-year nursing program, making it the first approved tribal nursing program in the state. The program's director is Marsha Tahquechi.[4]
Campus
The school occupies a former elementary school building.
Accreditation
It is applying but has not yet received accreditation from the North Central Association of Colleges and Secondary Schools.[5][6]
The college submitted the Preliminary Information Form (PIF) on March 22, 2011, which was accepted by the accrediting body. The college must complete a Self-Study and an on-site visit by the Commission to achieve accreditation.[7]
