Anti-gay discrimination case
In 2002, a case against the school district was brought by gay student George Loomis and the American Civil Liberties Union for discrimination and mistreatment he had suffered as a high school senior. One teacher said of Loomis' ear rings: "Only two kinds of guys wear earrings, pirates and faggots, and I don't see any water around here."
The school district settled out-of-court for $130,000.[3][4][5]
