Cricket in Mongolia

The Mongolian Amateur Cricket Association (MACA) was established and registered by the Ministry of Justice under the Mongolian law in 2007. The main aim of this organisation is to develop cricket as a recognised sport in Mongolia, both at school level and at a national level. Cricket is a very popular sport in Australia and it has a rich history. With the help of cricket enthusiasts and friends with passion for cricket MACA started organising regular cricket games and training sessions in Melbourne two years ago. Many Mongolian students have been involved in these activities and some of them became members of the Association. Over one hundred Mongolians and Aussies have attended the matches and training sessions so far. The important thing is that many Mongolians and Aussies are making friends through the wonders of cricket. Battulga G., the founder of MACA, has become the cricket coach after finishing the Cricket Coach Accreditation Course by Cricket Australia.[1][2][3][4]

Back in Mongolia MACA members and some alumni from Australian universities expressed their interest to support the activities run by the Association. Initially, MACA is aiming to organize regular training sessions at some secondary schools in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. MACA sent some cricket gear to Mongolia for Mongolian cricketers and kids last year. The first cricket introductory program in Mongolia was launched by MACA at secondary school number 34 in May 2013 in Ulaanbaatar. The cricket program had a duration of four weeks and it will resume during the next school term. MACA is planning to introduce cricket into more secondary schools in Ulaanbaatar.

There is a plan to organise a 2014 tour of the Aussie/Mongolian team to Mongolia for exhibition matches to further develop our cause. The Association is working on the itinerary and is ready to establish links with any organisations or individuals who support our activities. Any sort of support would be appreciated and welcomed by MACA. Further info and photos about our activities on Cricket Mongolia Facebook page.
