Cristin verch Goronwy
Cristin verch Goronwy or Christian verch Goronwy or Christiana ferch Goronwy was the second wife of Owain Gwynedd.[1][2]
Childhood history
She was born around 1105 AD in Tegaingl, Flint, Clwyd, Cymrumap. She was the daughter of Gronwy (ap Owain) Owain and Genilles V. (Hoedlyw) Owain. She was the sister to Rymel verch (Goronwy) Gronwy.[1][2]
Adult history
She was married to Owain Gwynedd about 1145, a cousin. The church did not honor this as a true marriage.[3] Where they were married in Wales is unknown.[4]
She is the mother of the infamous Dafydd ab Owain Gwynedd. Other children of hers are Rhodri ab Owain Gwynedd, Margaret ferch Owain ap Gwynedd, Iefan ab Owain Ap Gwynedd, Angharad ferch Owain ap Gwynedd, and Angharad V. (Gwynedd) of Gwynedd.[1]
Death
It is unknown exactly where or when she died, assumed to be someplace in the Kingdom of Gwynedd in Wales.[1]
Notorious
Cristin is known, at least in some part, for the murder of Hywel ab Owain Gwynedd.[5]
