Curtin FM 100.1 is a radio station based in Perth, Western Australia. The station broadcasts from studios at the Bentley campus at Curtin University. As well as broadcasting on radio, the station also streams on the Internet and broadcasts digitally on CurtinDG.
History
The station was formerly known as Curtin Radio 927, and became the state's first community broadcaster on 16 October 1976.[1] The station held one of only five special licences granted by the then Minister for the Media, Moss Cass, after he 'discovered' community radio in the United States. CurtinFM was then known as 6NR (6 New Radio), and the Western Australian Institute of Technology (WAIT), now Curtin University, held the licence.
After 26 years of AM broadcasting, the station converted to the FM Band in 2002. The radio station is also available on the DAB+ format (digital radio) named CURTINDG and also available on the World Wide Web.
CurtinFM has a weekly cumulative listenership in excess of 200,000 people (all ages 15+) and has more than four thousand subscribing members. CurtinFM also has more than 100 professionally trained volunteers.

Newsroom
A training ground for students who study at the Curtin school of Journalism, CurtinFM has assisted with producing some of Western Australia's most respected radio and television journalists.[5][6]
The CurtinFM Newsroom is staffed by two full time cadet journalists, Emma Griffiths and Louis Zambotto. It is also staffed by volunteer students, who study at the Curtin School of Journalism and prepare news bulletins under the direction of News Editor, Les Welsh.
A graduate of the Lee Murray School of Radio Announcing in Melbourne, as well as ECU. Les is the former News Editor at the ABC and 6PR, and has more than 40 years experience in radio broadcasting.[7]
The station has news updates from 6AM to 6PM daily including reporter's source from Macquarie National News. When the students are back at university, the news services carry out to 9pm.
At 6pm, there is a nightly FM Simulcast of Seven News from Channel 7 Perth. As of 2016, the simulcast had a broadcasting break.
