Daulat Bikram Bista (Nepali: दौलत विक्रम विष्ट) is a Nepali literary figure in the field of novels and stories. His ancestral home is Lamjung District. He was the first awardee of Mahendra Pragya Puraskar in 2030 B.S for his novel Chapaiyeka Anuharharu. He had received Madan Puraskar in 2045 B.S for his acclaimed novel Jyoti Jyoti Maha Jyoti. He got Sajha Puraskar for Ashu tesai tesai Chhahchalkincha(आँसु त्यसै त्यसै छचल्किन्छ). He got many awards and appreciation from government and non-government bodies. He received Order of Tri Shakti Patta and Order of Gorkha Dakshina Bahu-fourth. His first novel is ‘Manjari’, which was published in 2015 BS. ‘Manjari’ is a social novel which is based on the theme of social changes brought about by the 1951 revolution. ‘Manjari’ has revealed the social and cultural outlook and practices of that time. Manjari is the main character after whose name the title of the novel has been taken. His second novel is ‘Ek Paluwa Anekau Yam’, which has shown a greater novelistic quality of the writer. In this novel, the writer has demonstrated maturity in fiction writing. This is one of best novels written in Nepali language. ‘Chapaiyeka Anuharharu’ (Emaciated Faces) is Bista’s another acclaimed novel. This is a unique novel which has exposed the social disharmony and contradiction prevailing in the society. Bista has introduced a new approach and style in this novel in terms of theme, plot, style and message. ‘Jyoti Jyoti Mahajyoti’ (Light of Lights) is another top class novel. This is a novel based on social reality of a person belonging to a poor family. Bista’s other novels are ‘Thakeko Akash’ ( An Exhausted Sky), ‘Bigriyeko Bato’ (Spoiled Path), ‘Bhok Ra Bhittaharu’ (Hunger and Walls), ‘Baluwa Mathi’ ( On The Sand) and ‘Himal Ra Manche’ (Himalaya And A Man). All these novels are social novels which have dealt with burning social issues and have exposed the exploitation and discrimination meted out to the poor and downtrodden people. [1] [2]
