Dave Strickland (4 December 1877 – 31 December 1963) was an Australian rules footballer who played with St Kilda in the Victorian Football League (VFL). [1]

Working at Menzies in the goldfields of Western Australia, he was also an amateur sprinter.[2][3] While he performed at a level that would have allowed him to compete in the 1900 Summer Olympics, he was unable to attend as he lacked the money for a trip to Paris.[4] In 1900, he entered the Stawell Gift 130-yard (120-m) foot-race, winning in 12 seconds off a handicap of 10 yards.[5]

His daughter, Shirley Strickland, represented Australia at 3 Olympic Games, winning 7 medals including 3 gold.
